My name is Brenton Richards. I'm from the Barngarla tribe, we're the traditional owners of the Eyre Peninsula area. One football club, you know they want you to play sports for them, but when it came to socialising, they didn't want you there. So my brother Fred Richards and Archie Saunders, they used to barred all the time, so the seeds were sown that we need our own social gathering place so that Aboriginal people can enjoy themselves. And that was the beginning of Mallee Park Football Club. It's negative gearing I suppose but positive did come out of it where we learn to self manage, self determine. The positive is today we've got about nine AFL players because of that negative view in the first instance and made Aboriginal people get of their back sides and do things for themselves. So positive can come from a negative.
