My name is Brenton Richards. I'm from the Barngarla tribe, we're the traditional owners of the Eyre Peninsula area. The biggest employer of Aboriginal people was the meatworks. But when that closed down systemic racism takes place. The Aboriginal people were labourers and so the normal jobs that are going out being a labourer in the building industry, or things like that, when the meatworks closed what was normally the Aboriginal people's job labouring then they were displaced by the people who were the butchers and skilled white people that moved down and took them jobs. It was another nail in the coffin for Aboriginal people just trying to get a job. Then they bought in things that you had to have a ticket just to be a labourer on site. If you didn't have no ticket well you didn't get a job.
