Completing a teacher aide course in Mackay is the first step towards a rewarding career in a local primary or high school. A teacher aide course will give you the skills, knowledge and confidence to effectively help Mackay schoolteachers and students with learning, behaviour and other tasks required for the effective operation of a busy, dynamic classroom.
ITAC offers 3 teacher aide courses to people living in the Mackay region of QLD. We’ll look at each of these qualifications and the key topics you’ll learn in each. The first two are individual courses and can be government subsidised ($50 co-contribution fee for concessional students or $100 for standard enrolments subject to eligibility). The third is our teacher aide combo which is perfect for anyone not eligible for a government funded place (such as if you have competed a higher-level course).
This is the entry-level teacher aide course (both in Queensland and across Australia). In this teacher assistant course, you’ll learn key skills such as how to:
Once you complete the CHC30221 Certificate III in School Based Education Support, you’ll have the ability to be an effective teacher’s aide in a mainstream Mackay primary and/or high schools, such as:
This teacher aide course is often referred to as the ‘special needs course’. In other words, you should choose this course if you’d like to work in schools (or classrooms) that cater for students with special needs such as neurological disorders, behavioural disorders and learning disorders. Working in these positions usually requires the higher qualification and therefore results in a slightly higher pay point than staff who work with students who do not have a disability or disorder. This course opens more doors as the majority of teacher aide jobs in Mackay are for work with special needs students.
Completing the CHC40221 teacher aide course will equip you with the skills and knowledge to be able to work effectively in a special school such as the Mackay District Special School. However, graduates of this course can find work in any school as they are the highest qualified teacher aides and will potentially find work easier due to being better qualified than most applicants (who usually hold the lower level CHC30221 Certificate III in School Based Education Support).
For those not eligible for funding, this popular teacher aide course combines the above Certificate III and Certificate IV courses in Education Support. It therefore provides you with the skills to work as a teacher aide with all Mackay primary and high school students (both those in mainstream schools as well as those with special needs). Having this combined qualification maximises your employability. This program is cost effective (compared to paying for two courses – saving over $1500) and takes only a little more time than completing a single course.
You might be wondering how much it costs for a teacher aide qualification in Mackay. Depending on your situation and the course you choose, the cost can be as little as $50. That’s because some teacher aide courses are subsidised by the government.
