Understanding Your Qualification
The CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care is the key qualification for working in early learning services such as childcare centres, kindergartens and family day care. It teaches you how to support young children’s learning, development and wellbeing through play-based activities, care routines, and meaningful interactions. You’ll build practical, job-ready skills that prepare you for real work in a range of early childhood settings.
As part of your course, you'll complete a 160-hour placement in a registered early childhood service. This gives you hands-on experience working with babies, toddlers and preschoolers in real-world environments. You’ll be involved in daily routines, setting up learning experiences, observing children’s development, and contributing to a safe, engaging and supportive learning space.
You’ll develop a broad set of skills that reflect the day-to-day responsibilities of early childhood educators. This includes:
Building positive relationships with children and families
Guiding behaviour using respectful, child-focused approaches
Observing, documenting and responding to children’s needs
Working within legal, ethical and regulatory frameworks
These skills are built around the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and reflect current expectations in the early childhood profession.
